Early March 2013 I was in California to sign artwork and one of my stops brought me to the foothills of the Sierra. As the forecast was for snow I made the decision to make the trip to Yosemite to see this rare (to me) opportunity. Getting down there afternoon before the valley was stormy but dry. Sleeping in my car that night (I was about to head to southern Utah so I had my sleeping bag with me), I was excited to see what the morning would have to offer.
And nature did not disappoint. I woke up a bit before sunrise to everything covered in about 2" of wet sticky snow. Transforming the valley in to an almost duo-tone landscape. After shooting an open field (where Pencil To Paper was captured), I went back to the classic tunnel of Yosemite Falls view I had explored previously. Only this time the snow added an incredible element of depth. Super quite, barely anyone else around. And the gentle click of the shutter....beanie on head and smile on face.
